Not as long as the Game of Thrones books, that's for sure. I think the three-movie format worked pretty well for them already, since it kind of forced Peter Jackson to cut out the (arguably) unnecessary stuff while keeping the story's grand scope. I wouldn't mind a TV series if it kept to that philosophy, but nowadays, it feels like "TV adaptation" is just synonymous with "more padding."

If they're only doing The Silmarillion, that would make more sense.
