and it seems like half the time the songs or musical riffs i come up with almost always end up sounding best to me
in one certain key or another but nothing else.
And lately its been Bb Minor or sometimes F Minor. no matter how many times i pick up my guitar or sing some lyrics in my head
they almost always end up in one of those 2 keys. They may end up in different ones later but thats the ones they end up starting at.
What about you guys? got a musical key that seems to always sound appealing to your ears? or maybe a certain chord?

Man, there are too many keys I like. I hate Eb though.

thats the string you're plucking while you're changing amp settings or the like. Because then that same sound of that big fat E string
going BLUNG BLUNG BLUNG gets burned into your head.
I've actually found it hard to get into Dm myself or for the guitar guys "drop d tuning" type stuff. i guess that sound was always too edgy for me.
though it is helpful making some E riffs when you can grab that extra low D note. Now for more mellow non-rock sounds Dm is beautiful.
As Nigel Tufnel said "the saddest chord there is" and as an expressive main key for a song like say "calling in the air tonight" it makes quite an impact
I think the reason i like Bb a whole lot is because it seems to have this jumpy happy vibrance even if its in a minor scale and i always
find it hard NOT to get caught up in going into a full on Barre Chord Double Stop Disco/Funk sextravagansa playing in that key. I've mastered
many a barre chord doing that.

I have tried to write pieces before. The last one I did was a pentatonic composition in F#m, so it may very well be my favorite key.
I like them all, though. C is great for its simplicity, Em is nice...
And I also love all the melodic minor tunes. I love the exotic sound from the raised subtonic.

Honestly? C#m is pretty cool, but it's really overused. I really like, as far as chords go, Ab6/Bb, though.

The close second ones are D and E. I'm not a fan of # and b notes.

I work mainly in C because it's easiest.

To be honest, I don't think of keys when I write stuff. I just write stuff that sounds good.
