Something in this trailer I really liked was how Kong looked really bipedal, kind of like Toho's representation.

EDIT: Now that I've watched it, it seems like they're trying to connect it a bit to Godzilla with the idea that ancient monsters roamed the earth. Maybe this is supposed to be happening at the same time as Godzilla (2014)? Since they're gonna beat each other up anyway...

This movie takes place in the 70's in the same universe as Godzilla 2014, introducing Kong before the Godzilla vs. Kong movie coming in 2020.

Also, I think it's confirmed that John Goodman's character works for MONARCH, the secret agency from Godzilla 2014 that study monsters.
