Maybe it's a virus itself?

MalwareBytes it.

Or if that doesn't work, use task manager to end the Process.

Not exactly a virus, per se, but I am unable to delete Norton Internet Security from my computer. It's long expired, and it tells me to renew every day. The popup that comes from it cannot be close using the [x] button on the upper-right corner, and the only two options that the popup gives are to renew it immediately, and to remind me in one day. The whole thing is starting to bugger me at this point.

Uninstall it since it's expired and won't serve you anymore use. The post I made in this thread has good free alternatives.

Like I said, when I try to delete it, it says that it is unable to uninstall it from my computer.

I also checked it with MalwareBytes, it's not spyware (it came with my computer about 2 years ago).

EDIT: Removed it. Woo me.

  • Here are my recommendations.

Don't ask why, I just wanted to do this.

    Paid Anti-viruses

    1. Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 (I use this)

    2. Bit Defender Internet Total Security 2009

    3. Trend Micro Antivirus 2009

    4. ESET Nod32

    5. Spyware Doctor (Not quite sure of the full name)

    6. Norton 360 (Even though it slows down computers, it works)

    Free Anti-viruses

    1. avast! Anti-virus (VERY good free one)

    2. AVG Anti-virus (It detects too much sometimes)

    3. Avira Antivir (It doesn't like to delete files)

    Other Shit

    1. Malawarebytes Anti-Malware (Amazing software, I recommend it if you have a free anti-virus)

    2. Comodo Firewall (Much better than Windows Defender)

    3. Zone Alarm Firewall (Very good; second best)

    4. WinPatrol (Very good anti-adware)

Also, I recommend browsing with Firefox or Google Chrome. Firefox is best for its features, plugins, customization, and speed. You should download things such as AdBlockPlus and Ghostery to prevent ads from watching you.

Never, and I mean NEVER go to a site and download what you know is unsafe. It's obvious, and even with a good antivirus you could be unsafe. Trust me, I've had to reformat my computer because of super-viruses.

EDIT: Today, I got BitDefender Total Security 2010. It is the best anti-virus I have ever used. I shit you not.

It's fucking amazing, it has hourly updates, FREE online backups, disk defragment, gaming mode, a powerful firewall, registry cleaner, duplicate file deleter, perfect rootkit detection, and makes sure your software is up to date.

    It's amazing.

    3. Avira Antivir (It doesn't like to delete files)

i've been using it for over three years, never had that kind of a problem

remember, "quarantine" and "block access" =\= "delete"

Don't bother trying to delete it. When norton is in your hardrive, it doesn't come out. I've tried EVERYTHING to uninstall it and it just keeps coming back. You're best off just ignoring it. Plus, norton itself is a virus.

Well, it's not really a virus, but it will rape your computer and never want to leave. You would have to first uninstall it, proceed to delete all files from the hard drive, and search for any other files associated with Norton.

So yeah, after many times of asking my dad to get MalwareBytes considering it's been recommended to me by so many people, I finally just said fuck it and downloaded it anyway and did a side by side test with Norton.

Norton took about 20 minutes to do a full scan, and found absolutely nothing. While MalwareBytes took 8 minutes to do a full scan and found 18 infected files and deleted them all.

I told him, and he was angry that I disobeyed him but didn't care when I told him I got rid of 18 infected files

In case your computer crashes and you have to load all the data on it, you need to buy Norton Semantic Ghost. It'll take a picture of your computer so if it ever crashes you can just take the program and reload it all. The only problem is that it needs to backup once every week, which actually isn't too bad.

Why is everyone so against Norton and McAfee? They may not be the coolest kids on the block but they served me well.

Don't bother trying to delete it. When norton is in your hardrive, it doesn't come out. I've tried EVERYTHING to uninstall it and it just keeps coming back. You're best off just ignoring it. Plus, norton itself is a virus.

I managed to uninstall my norton just fine.

Speaking of Norton, my laptop keeps giving me security alerts because "Norton Worm Protection is deactivated". The thing is, the Norton trial that came with this thing expired ages ago, and I uninstalled it even before the expiration date.

My brother downloaded some shit on my computer that causes sites (sometimes porn sites) or adverts to pop up on Internet Explorer. I have tried what I can to remove it. Does anyone know how?

Norton is a really bad company, they'll do pretty inconsiderate stuff to get you to pay them.
