YouChew's the Best of the Year 2016   02/08/2017

Hello everyone, it's time for our annual media-based award ceremony. Click here to cast your nominees for your best-of-the-year picks!

The Writing Staff Needs You (Chew) - Apply to Be a Member!

Nozdordomu

Hello, YouChew!

It's that time of the year again. The Writing Staff has come up a bit short for members recently, and we'd really like to have some new blood on the team. So, right now, we're opening up applications for any forum member who feels they'd be a good fit for the staff. If you love writing and have a lot to write about, you should definitely give it a try.

Applying is pretty self-explanatory. All you have to do is send us a sample of your writing, preferably a work of nonfiction or critique. Choose the piece that best represents your writing style and your interests, make sure it's an appropriate length, and don't forget to proofread your work before submitting. Remember, we're looking for articles rather than blog posts. Once we read what you've written, we'll decide whether your skills are staff-worthy and whether to proceed with an interview.

We'll be accepting applications through the end of August. Feel free to message your application to me, the editor-in-chief, or to one of the other Writing Staff editors (Crazy Luigi and TheOneManBoxOffice). We're all really looking forward to reading your pieces, so keep them coming.

Thank you all and happy writing!

So do you have to write stuff up or are you given stuff to write about?

Exactly how long is an appropriate length? Other than that, consider me in.

You can write stuff up involving almost anything you want to talk about. If you've got the knowledge and capabilities to talk about something, it's free play for you!

That's a very good question, and it was something that discussed by the rest of the members as well! I know that the F-Zero GX review I posted a few years ago was a college essay I made that was about 3 pages in length. So I guess maybe at least 3 pages of work would do? I think another Writing Staff member like @Biodegradable or @Benedetto would be helpful in that sense.

Huh...I'll dwell on it, but I'm not too good with keeping up with fancy smancy things...

My articles are generally above 1,500 words. If you can't reach it, that's fine, but the more material you can give us to review, the better.

I recommend a minimum of 1000 words.

As for topics, you can write about anything you want as long as you think people will find it interesting. I suggest checking out the article archives and get an idea of the kinda stuff YouChewians have enjoyed reading about. Anything goes, really.

Yeah, pretty much. As long as the writing quality is solid, the topic is largely unimportant if it's just an application. I recommend reviewing a book, video game, or movie that really captures your interest.

Neat. SO what do we do, just submit something then?

I will write something up, if I have some spare time. Just a couple questions, though.

1. I use a program known as Nimble Writer to write all of my works. Can I just submit the nwd or does it have to be a specific file type?

2. Once the review is complete, could I use it as a script for a YouTube video?
I know these are horrible questions, but I would like to know before I write something. Excuse me for my noobiness.

Oh, I already had in an application. *headscatch* never finished that article.  Hey uh, I'll start a new article if someone on the staff could give it a review.

If you're going to write an article, I would advise writing it up in the word processor of your choice, and then copying it and submitting it to a Writing Staff member (preferably an Editor) through a private message.

I don't see why not. It's your opinion, so you're free to express it how you want.

All you need to do is type up a formatted article using Microsoft Word, copy and paste it in a message to either me, Crazy Luigi, or Noz and we'll review it. If we think it's up to snuff or if there's work that needs to be done to it, we'll let you know.

Keep in mind that in the case we think your article isn't up to standards, it doesn't mean give up. Just keep at it and see how you can improve. You're welcome to look at past articles as examples. This I encourage to anyone who wants to apply.

So it's like a job interview :P

Well it might take a few days...if I start with Kamen Rider Amazons first, the first season is going to end this Sunday...Can probably write something prior to get started and integrate whatever happens in the last episode to the rest of it.
